Creating Calm With Christy | Hello I'm Christy | Creator of Calm | Maker of Magic (M.O.M.)

If you’re overwhelmed and stressed out with your day-to-day life. I want to help.  No one deserves to live each day stressed to the max, just trying to keep up.  Keep reading to find out who I am, why I’m here, and how I just might be able to help you.  Life is too short to live stressed by the daily stuff.  How can I help?

It’s Just the Beginning: Who am I? Why am I here? How can I help?

Who is this girl?

Hello there! I’m Christy, and I’m so glad you’re here.

As I write this post to help you better understand who I am, why I’m here, and how I can help, I’m on day 262 of quarantine. Yep, no need to reread that statement, day 262. While that seems like a long time, it truly has flown by and been an eye-opening experience.

So grab some coffee or some wine and get comfortable because we’re about to go on a little journey.

Hello 2020, I see you!

My family and I quarantined on March 12, 2020, which was just 10 short days after a tornado devastated our community and left our daughter’s elementary school in the rubble.

I knew it was inevitable. As a Massage Therapist with Type 1 Diabetes and a husband who’s a history junkie, it was never a matter of “if,” but instead “when.”

Mike’s radar began going off in January, and he had me preparing for the worst.  I made sure we were stocked with everything on his list. E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G! Including the holy grail, toilet paper.

Bless his heart, he really did think of it all.

I won’t lie.  Initially, I was resistant and thought he was going overboard, but I’d soon find out differently and be grateful that he was on top of it.  So with the flow, I went, and here I sit 262 days later, writing my first blog post.

The Eye-Opener

The past 10 months have been very eye-opening for me.

I started strong. I was on FIRE and determined to get my house fully organized. But, my flame quickly went out, and I ran myself down. Raise your hand if you’ve been there too. I see you! Trust me. There’s no shame here. We’ve all been there.

Unfortunately, I only made it a month before I was in a place of depression. The only issue was I DIDN’T SEE IT. To me, life was great! I played video games non-stop, relaxing, and catching up on all the NetFlix I could fit in.

Finally, one day, about 2 months later, I came out of my fog.  I thought, “what are you doing? This was a beautiful opportunity, and  there I was just throwing it away.” Where had my purpose gone?

See, that girl I’d worked so hard to uncover, the one who had a zest for life and strove to make things happen, that girl was not showing up. Right then, I knew I had to get out of that rut and with a quickness. I had to start digging deep and redefining my purpose. And I had to start with me.

After years of experience dealing with this, I knew that I had to pick myself back up when I fell down. Stand up on my own 2 feet, and start marching forward again. My starting point would be getting the weight off I’d gained. Next, I’d get my house in order, once and for all, and finally, I’d be ready to start my foyer once I could get to a store and get the supplies.

I was going to do it all. Then…..I got distracted.

The Aha Moment | The moment where everything makes sense | you have a clear picture of what lies ahead and the fog is lifted

The Aha Moment

Then, it finally hit me. That moment of clarity, my aha moment. The moment when I realized I was going into the deep end and I need to get serious.  I need to take control of the wheel, and I needed to do it fast.

I decided to start with my weight. So, I signed up for Noom (a weight-loss program) that focuses on the psychological aspects of eating.  This program was fantastic. I’d highly recommend it for anyone struggling with weight-loss interested in learning how our thoughts and feelings are connected or disconnected from our food habits.

Then, I wanted to work on getting my home in order. I purchased a home organization bundle online.  But, as I worked my way through weeks of workshops and courses, I realized one thing. I already knew what I needed to know. Why was I still searching for information I already had? Why did I feel like I didn’t know enough? So, I dug deeper. I started listening to self-help and inspirational podcasts, and then I found my answers.

Reclaim Your Time

CONFESSION: I’m a procrastinating perfectionist.

Does that sound familiar to you? I sure hope not, because it can be hell. Basically, I want everything to be perfect.  It takes me forever to start something and if I don’t feel I’ll be able to execute with perfection, I’ll avoid it completely. I’ll find all the busy work I can to keep from actually having to tackle the one thing I’m afraid of messing up.

Perfectionism can be paralyzing, don't let it hold you back from following your dreams

The Foyer

You know the foyer I mentioned earlier?

Well, for 3 years now, I’ve known exactly what I wanted to do with it, but I got scared I wouldn’t be able to do it perfectly.  I was afraid I’d mess something up.

So, I did the research, A LOT of research. I scoured Pinterest for hours on end.  Basically, I stalled, and nothing “really” got done. A prime example of that busy work I mentioned. All because I was afraid I would mess it up. It wouldn’t be “perfect.”

This act of not doing things for fear of it not being perfect is known as perfectionist paralysis. It leaves you paralyzed and unable to do anything if you feel you can’t do it perfectly.

I would continue to make excuse after excuse. Even though it’s the one thing, I really want to get done in my home. Darn you perfectionism!

Three years ago, when I started planning my foyer, my husband suggested I start a blog. He thought I should share my journey and my love of DIY with others. I thought it was a great idea, and then again, perfectionism set in.  But, this time, this character is impostor syndrome.

Who was I to tell people how to make things? I was just some girl muddling her way through DIY projects.

So, I froze, deer in headlights, and guess what?

Nothing happened. Not the blog. Not the foyer. Absolutely nothing.

My foyer sat with 15 paint sample blocks painted on it for 3 years. All because I couldn’t pull the trigger. I couldn’t make the next move.

Til about a month ago.

It was all so clear. I have to move forward. My purpose has to be served.

Finally, I let my husband paint over those sample colors. (Don’t worry, I know what color I’m going with.) I took the leap, and here I am. Making that next move and hopefully encouraging you to make yours too. Although I’ll admit, it’s taken me a week to hit the publish button on this post.

Procrastination at its finest.

Why I’m Here

Look, I’m not a real expert in anything except perfectionism and procrastination. What I do have is this.

♦ 10 years experience as a Licensed Massage Therapist
♦ 13 years of financial experience
♦ 23 years as a military wife
♦ 9 years as M.O.M (Maker of Magic)

My true passion in life is to help others. I love being a massage therapist. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is seeing a client jump off my massage table because their pain is noticeably better or even completely gone.

I miss the interaction with my clients. Helping them brainstorm & pinpoint possible causes of their issues and showing them ways to alleviate those issues. I miss being part of their journey, and I miss sharing my knowledge with them.

Seriously, if I have knowledge that can be of use or value to someone else, then I should share it. Right?

Why not try and help someone better themselves or their situation if I can? Right?

What I’ve realized is that to fulfill my purpose, I need to be helping others! And if I’m not comfortable performing massages during a pandemic, then I needed to find another way to serve them.

My purpose is to help you relieve the stress in your life. However, that may look to you.

Do any of the following sound familiar to you?

♦ constant body aches
♦ overwhelmed with your daily tasks
♦ financial stress

If you said yes to any of the above, I’m confident I can help. Here’s what I can do to help you be the best version of yourself.

♥ Routines and habit-building strategies to help eliminate unnecessary stress.
♥ Financial advice on how to create budgets that work. Ways to save money and maybe even make a little extra along the way.
♥ The importance of self-care and what that really looks like.
♥ Videos teaching self-massage techniques to relieve stress and tension

How Can I Help?

Do you lack direction in your day, which causes stressful situations?  Then, building some habits and routines might be most helpful.

Are you just completely overwhelmed?  So busy that you’re just barely holding it all together?  Do you find yourself lashing out at those you love the most?  As hard as it might seem,  maybe what you need is to take more time for yourself.  Don’t have time?  I have several posts on planning your time.

Take a step back and evaluate what is really important.   Who do you want to be?  What does that look like?

Are you stressed over finances?  Do you say, “what’s a budget?”  I can teach you.

It’s all a vicious cycle that feeds off itself.

All these things that stress you out also cause your body aches and pains.  So, you might find relief from a self-massage video.

Guess what?  I get it!  I’ve been there.

I’ve been at the gas pump on “E” only to realize my check hasn’t hit the bank yet.

I’ve been told, “I’m sorry, Ms, but your card is declined.”

I’ve had those hangry fights over what’s for dinner because we’re both done making decisions for the day.

I’ve come home to a house so overwhelmed with clutter that I can’t find anything.  Dishes piled on the counter for weeks until we have none left.  So we resort to eating out, just to avoid cleaning.

I’ve gone to bed at night and cried because it’s all just too much.

I’ve been there.  I’ve lived it, and I’ve overcome it.

I found my peace through getting my home in order, taking care of myself, finding daily routines that work, budgeting our finances, and paying off debt.  And I know you can too.

2020 has spoken to us all in one way or another.  I’ve heard it loud and clear.  I’m here to stand in my purpose, and I’d love to be part of your journey.  I can’t wait to help you find your own peace, your own calm.
